The Fold Bitcoin credit card, issued by Celtic Bank, is among a limited number of cards that offer cryptocurrency rewards. Fold is a financial technology company, not an insured bank or credit union.
The card does not charge an annual fee, a foreign transaction fee or a penalty APR. However, late payments can still damage a cardholder’s credit scores.
Rewards are paid in Bitcoin, with a baseline rate of 1.5% on all purchases. That rate is not capped. Higher rewards require a Fold Reserve account, which Fold describes as a closed-loop stored value program rather than a bank or investment account. Funds in the account can be used to buy Bitcoin and gift cards, and the balance determines the card’s rewards tier.
The available rates range from 1.5% for balances below $5,000 to 5% for a $100,000 Fold Reserve balance. The tiers are as follows: $5,000 earns 1.5% plus 0.25% for bill pay; $15,000 earns 1.75% plus 0.5%; $25,000 earns 2% plus 1%; $50,000 earns 3% plus 1.5%; $75,000 earns 4% plus 2%; and $100,000 earns 5% plus 3%.
Rewards above the 1.5% base rate apply only to the first $5,000 spent each month. Cardholders can also earn additional rewards by paying bills from a Fold checking account, subject to the same monthly spending limit for those bonuses.
For example, a customer with $25,000 in Fold Reserve and bill pay enabled would earn 2% on up to $5,000 in monthly purchases, then return to the 1.5% base rate for the rest of the month. The same customer would earn 1% on the first $5,000 in monthly bill payments.
Rewards can be redeemed for Bitcoin or gift cards, but the rewards balance must reach at least 30,000 sats. A satoshi, or sat, is the smallest unit of Bitcoin.
Approved applicants who use Apple Pay or Google Pay receive a virtual card automatically in their digital wallet, allowing immediate use. As of October 2026, the feature was not available for Samsung Pay.
